A Scrappy, Rifle Paper Co. Greta Quilt
When I was planning samples for the Greta Quilt Pattern, I started pulling scraps to make a scrappy version and had them piled up on my sewing table. They were right next to the Rifle Paper Co. scraps that I had set aside for another project and I kept being drawn to the RPC pile for this project — I couldn't resist!
Since I have used RPC fabrics for several projects now, I do not have as much variety as I would have liked, but I didn't let that stop me. There were lots of duplicate fabrics in here and a couple that I wish I'd had more of (those tigers!) but I still love how it turned out.
In fact, the whole process of making this quilt was just a ton of fun and a good reminder why I love making scrap quilts. Sure, they make a big mess. And are more work. But the whole process is joyful and the end result is always amazing.
I had a RPC print on hand for backing that worked nicely with the quilt. The binding was some leftover Bella Solid that I had purchased for this project.
When I am picking a binding for a scrap quilt, I don't necessarily pick something that is matches every single print on the front of the quilt (that is usually impossible) but I try to find something that bridges the backing to the quilt top. In this case, the backing fabric and some of the prints on the front both use this shade of blue so it felt like a good option.
If you would like to make a quilt just like this one, you can pick up the Greta Quilt Pattern in my shop right now. Rifle Paper Co. is regularly releasing new collections with TONS of prints so there are lots of options out there if you are wanting to make a scrap quilt. I know that after making this, I'm going to be shopping for some more fabric to add to my own stash.

I just bought the Greta pattern entirely because of this scrappy version! I’m planning on using a layer cake to make it. When making this scrappy version, did you disregard the Fabrics A and B entirely and just use scraps instead, or did you have a different design plan that somehow substituted for the fabric A and B scheme? I’d love some advice before I start cutting fabric! Thank you!

I am mesmerized by the Greta Quilt pattern made up with the RPC scraps!!! Can’t wait to get started. Going on line now to see what they have for fabrics that would work just to make this quilt. Thanks so much.
