The Lydia Quilt Pattern in Rifle Paper Co. Holiday Classics III
Fabric Details
The one question I had for these fabrics was what to use as an accent fabric. Red and green are the smallest part of my stash and I couldn't find anything else on hand that seemed like it would work. Then I was doing a little fabric shopping and noticed that one of the prints from a previous Holiday Classics collection was available and decided to go for it.
For the background fabric, I stuck with an off-white since there was a lot going on with the other fabrics and I wanted to let them speak for themselves. For the backing fabric, I used the Christmas Cookies print from the collection (my favorite!). For some reason, I just find those little Christmas tree shaped cookies to be irresistible, especially the peach one.
For the binding I used the wavy stripe from the collection and this is my one regret: I wish I had done a bias binding. The stripe goes the opposite direction of normal fabrics so the stripes ended up running parallel to the binding instead of perpendicular. Oh well, I should have thought about this before I cut the fabric!
This is the first full quilt that I quilted with my new machine so I was super excited to try out the scallop stitch to see how it went. I had this stitch on my old machine, but on the 6700 the stitch is a little wider and it is so pretty! I love it so much.
Why I Love This Project
The Lydia Quilt is so versatile and works beautifully with precuts like fat quarters (and layer cakes and jelly rolls and scraps). Pairing it with Rifle Paper Co.’s Holiday Classics made it even more fun—it’s a collection that just screams “holiday joy” while still being elegant and modern.
If you’re looking for a holiday project or just love Rifle Paper Co. fabrics as much as I do, I highly recommend giving this pattern a try.
