Scrappy Scrap Happy Quilt

Scrappy Scrap Happy Quilt

I have a confession to make: I didn't not meet my goal of completely 3 WIPs in September. But I did finish this one.

I'm giving myself bonus points because I used (1) tons of legitimate scraps and (2) two different prints from my stash that have been sitting on my shelf for YEARS.

This pattern is called Scrap Happy and it is from Vanessa Goertzen's book Charm School. The book was written with charm square precuts in mind, but charm square patterns lend themselves toward scraps as well. In fact, this pattern has instructions for using charm packs AND layer cakes AND jelly rolls AND fat quarters AND scraps. So you can pretty much make it with anything.

My original plan for this pattern was just to use whichever scraps I picked up, but I ended up with a stack that was disproportionately blue/green/yellow/neutral, so I decided to go for it.

For the backing fabric I used this super fun black and white gingham from a Windham Fabrics collection called The Great Outdoors. The scale and color work really well as a backing fabric.

It was a great scrap/stash buster and a lot of fun to put together. I would love to do a version with lighter colored stars and a darker background. I think I have enough scraps sitting around to make at least a dozen of these!
