A Mini Plaid-ish Quilt in Ink Shop
Over the past couple of months, I've been able to do something that I haven't had time to do regularly in years: make quilts that aren't on my to-do list.
As much as I love working on new patterns, I miss my older ones. It has been so much fun to make quilts just because I want to make them, without worrying about deadlines or what I need to work on next. Of course, there was some of that too. This is my job, after all. 😂
When I saw Sarah Watts' newest collection, Ink Shop, I knew immediately that I wanted to make a Mini Plaid-ish Quilt. The collection is quirky, with lots of low-volume prints, and it just felt like the right pattern.

The nice thing about the Mini Plaid-ish Quilt is that as long as a collection has lots of prints, you can pretty much make it work. Some of the medium-value prints in this collection were a little lighter than would have been ideal, but once I put everything into the quilt layout, it all worked together.

For the backing fabric, I used an older Ruby Star Society print that I had in my stash. I'm trying to be resourceful and use what I have, and even though I really wanted to buy yardage of one of the octopus prints, this fabric worked wonderfully. The binding is a very dark blue Speckled print, also from my stash.
For the quilting, I used a serpentine stitch. I've been using this stitch a lot lately because it works with just about everything and gives the finished quilt such great texture.
Going forward, expect to see more just-for-fun projects mixed in with the newer patterns. Next year I'll be releasing my 100th pattern, so I have a lot of older patterns to revisit!
If you'd like to make a quilt just like this one, Ink Shop is available for pre-order now, and you can find the Mini Plaid-ish Quilt pattern in my shop.
