Quilt Roulette - The Virginia Quilt

Quilt Roulette - The Virginia Quilt

I finally finished my most recent Quilt Roulette project! In a perfect world, I’d make one of these every week, but running this little quilting business keeps me juggling a million things at once. Maybe someday!

Quilt Roulette Challenge Recap

This round’s challenge theme was “things that don’t belong” using The Virginia Quilt pattern. Let me be honest: I didn’t stick to the theme at all. My plan was to combine soft pastels with bold, dark prints to highlight contrast, but once I started pulling fabrics, I found a combo I loved — and I ran with it.

Sometimes the fabric just decides for you!

I ended up using warm pinks, soft peaches, and buttery yellows that blend together in a happy, cohesive way. It might not scream “mismatched,” but I like it and these are my rules so I can break them.

Quilting Details

  • Pattern: The Virginia Quilt (available in my shop)

  • Fabric Pull: A mix of light, warm tones—your favorites from Instagram helped me choose!

  • Backing: I used Spark in Balmy from Ruby Star Society. I went stash-diving and this was the only one that worked.

  • Binding: You voted! I shared four options on Instagram and the winner was my top pick too — leftover wideback fabric from this quilt. It is more demure than my normal binding pick, but I am happy with how it turned out.

Where the Quilt Ended Up

My mom was visiting when I finished the binding and — well — she took the quilt home. (Don't worry, she asked first) She’s gifting it to one of her former students who is having a baby girl.

The Virginia Quilt pattern is fat quarter friendly and great for showing off color stories like this one. Whether you’re sticking to the theme or going off script like I did, it’s a fun and rewarding project.

What's Next?

Well, I'm about to release a new pattern and start a new quiltalong so it might be just little bit before I can start a new project, but I will share as soon as I do!
