Quilt Roulette: The Barbie Betty Quilt
Welcome to the first edition of my new challenge, Quilt Roulette! For this project, I randomly draw one theme and one quilt pattern from my festive jack-o-lantern bins. And for my first go, I got a Barbie-themed Betty Quilt Pattern!
This Barbie quilt took me on a nostalgic trip back to my childhood. Instead of playing with Barbies, my sister and I were loved collecting Barbie cards that featured dolls from different eras.
My favorite card? The iconic 1959 Barbie in the black-and-white swimsuit.
For this quilt, I decided to combine the aesthetic of the recent Barbie movie with the iconic 1959 swimsuit era, resulting in a very pink quilt top! Even though most of my pink fabrics lean warmer, I did my best with what I had to match Barbie’s signature cool-toned pink.
It’s been a while since I’ve made the Betty Quilt Pattern, but just like I remembered, it came together quickly. In fact, I spent way more time choosing fabrics than sewing! The background fabric is a light pink Carolyn Friedlander crosshatch, which is a bit hard to see in photos but adds a nice subtle texture and breaks up all of the pink.
For the quilt back, I couldn’t resist buying a new fabric that perfectly captured both the Barbie pink and that iconic black-and-white swimsuit vibe. The binding is a wide black-and-white stripe, which I cut 4” wide for an extra bold finish. I used a 1/2” seam allowance, and while some points were cut off, it doesn’t detract from the overall design for this particular pattern.
The quilting is a decorative scallop stitch, creating a dense, textured pattern that suits the size and theme of this baby quilt.
Now, I’ve got two options for these quilts made in the Quilt Roulette challenge:
1. Donate them locally to children in hospitals or foster care.
2. If you’re interested in purchasing one, I’m happy to sell the quilt for $100 with free domestic shipping, and I’ll donate 100% of the proceeds. If you’d like to own this quilt, send me an email!

I would love to buy the Barbie quilt for my sister. She loves Barbie. You should see her Christmas tree. She helped through breast cancer 19 years ago & is a big pink supporter. Love your blog
