A Rainbow Carly Quilt
I'm on a roll with finishing up quiltalong quilts! I recently shared this finished Penny quilt that I had made in the Quiltalong, and now I have finished up the rainbow/solids quilt that I made during the Carly QAL.
My stash of solids is pretty large - many of the fabrics are leftover pieces or small scraps, but I keep them all together for projects just like this. When I was deciding what I wanted to make during the QAL, I decided to make one two stashbusting quilts, one with prints and one with solids. Since I have so many different shades of solid colors, I made the solids version scrappy and rainbow-y.
These are my favorite types of projects. I love getting to spend time in my stash picking out colors, then arranging them and rearranging them just like I want them.
Instead of starting my rainbow with pink or red in the upper corner, I decided to the pink right down the middle since I have more pink solids than any other color and I have the fewest greens. Plus, I love pink and purple.
The background fabric is 108" wide Speckled fabric. I had used the fabric for the backing of this quilt, but since I didn't need the full 108" width, there was quite a bit leftover.
The backing is even more 108" wide Speckled! It is truly one of the best backing fabrics and it is a little more cost effective than buying regular 44" wide yardage. Especially when you take into account that you can use the leftover width for projects like this.
My favorite section of the quilt ended up being the coral-y pinks, so I decided to use one of those shades for the binding. Plus I really love the combination of the turquoise backing with the coral binding.
This project was a ton of fun. Originally I hadn't planned on doing a QAL with this pattern and I'm glad you guys talked me into it. All of the posts from the Carly QAL can be found here. If you would like to make your own version of the Carly Quilt Pattern, you can pick up the pattern in the shop.
And don't worry if you don't remember seeing the other quilt I made during the QAL, I haven't posted about it yet! Watch for that one soon.
