The Zora Quilt in Gracie by Rifle Paper Co.

Oh boy, did I enjoy making this quilt. My favorite thing about the Zora Quilt Pattern is that it doesn't use any background fabric. I wanted to use as much of this Gracie bundle as possible. The Zora Quilt is all about putting together lots of different colors or prints or values and then just letting them be awesome. No need to narrow things down to a few favorites. There is room for all of them.Obviously I love Rifle Paper Co. fabrics. I just checked, and I have now made 20 quilts with their fabrics, with another one on my design wall right now. Their fabrics look good in everything, they are super cute, and most of them mix and match really well between collections (my favorite part).And a pattern with no background fabric is a pretty good excuse to put those prints together. After making the Zora Quilt a few times, I have an approach to the layout that I think is helpful, especially when there are lots of different prints involved.

Each block has 5 strips — a set of 3 and a set of 2. For this quilt, I used darker value fabrics for the set of 3 in each of the larger blocks and lighter value fabrics for the set of 2. Then I did the opposite in the small blocks: a lighter set of 3 and a darker set of 2.This helps spread the darks and lights around the quilt so they don't all end up clumped together. It also gives you a starting point when you are deciding what goes where. With this many cute prints, sometimes having one less decision to make is nice.

Of course, you do not have to make your quilt this way. I didn't do this on the cover quilt! It is just an option if you love the pattern but feel a little overwhelmed by arranging all of the fabrics. A little bit of structure can make the layout more approachable while still leaving lots of room to play.That is part of what makes the Zora Quilt so much fun. You get a little plan for putting everything together and a whole quilt full of your favorite fabrics.
