The Zora Quilt in Fableism
When I designed the Zora Quilt Pattern, I didn’t intentionally set out to create a quilt that works especially well with woven fabrics — but after making a second version, I’m starting to think there must have been a subconscious plan.

This version of the Zora Quilt features Fableism wovens, and the texture adds so much depth to the finished quilt. Over the past few years, I’ve made quite a few quilts using Fableism fabrics (you can see those here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here). Like many of you, I tend to accumulate small leftover pieces from different collections, and this felt like the perfect opportunity to show how beautifully the Zora Quilt Pattern works as a scrap quilt pattern.

I pulled together all of my Fableism scraps and noticed I had a lot of greens. To balance that out, I added in touches of purple and orange and pink and blue. With just a little bit of editing and rearranging, those leftover pieces turned into a curated, cohesive quilt top — proof that stash sewing doesn’t have to feel chaotic.

You might notice that this version feels slightly more organized than a typical scrap quilt. That’s intentional. The key is paying attention to value placement within each block. Following the “scrap version” instructions in the pattern will help guide that process and give you this more structured look, even when working with a wide variety of fabrics.

For the backing, I reached for a favorite: 108” Carrie Bloomston Newsprint, a versatile wide backing fabric that pairs well with almost anything. The binding is Pure Solids in Coffee Bean, which frames the quilt nicely and grounds the brighter colors.

One note on this one: I used variegated thread for the quilting. I am trying to use the thread in my stash in addition to my fabric you might notice me using more colorful thread, especially on scrap quilts, in the future.

If you’ve been saving woven scraps or leftover pieces from past projects, the Zora Quilt Pattern is a wonderful way to use them thoughtfully and creatively. You can pick up your copy in the shop and start pulling from your own stash today.
