The Zelda Quilt in Sunnyside

Today I get to share you about the Zelda Quilt Pattern sample that I made using Sunnyside by Camille Roskelley. This (very large!) collection has so much variety and was perfect for making a slightly-less modern, fat eighth friendly version (you can see my fat quarter sample here). 

While I have loved Camille's (and Bonnie and Camille's) fabric collections for years, there was something that stood out to me about Sunnyside. Do you know what it was? The orange! This particular shade of orange doesn't show up in nearly enough fabric collections and it is soooo good. In fact, I needed it when I was putting together my scrappy, rainbow Mini Plaid-ish quilt because I didn't have enough or this shade/value in my stash so I cut into a couple of the prints before I even started making the Zelda Quilt. 

My second favorite thing about this collection is the stripes. They are the BEST stripes I have seen in a collection in a long time. They are very thin so they aren't visually distracting in the quilt (which is the problem that I usually have with stripes) but they are still distinctly stripe-y enough to make a fun binding. 

My third favorite thing about this collection is the shade of green. You might be surprised to hear me say that because I don't love green, but I do actually love THIS green. It's just a really solid, dark green shade without any blue mixed in. Just what my stash needs. 

I really didn't intend for this to be a countdown of my favorite things about Sunnyside but I just really enjoyed working with the fabrics. Because this collection leans a little more traditional, it was perfect for the traditional Ohio Star block used in the Zelda Quilt pattern. 

The backing fabric is (surprise!) one of the orange prints from the collection and the binding is a navy print. The background fabric is Moda Bella in Off White.
