The Vivian Quilt in Rifle Paper Co. Scraps

The Vivian Quilt in Rifle Paper Co. Scraps

Making a scrappy version of the Vivian Quilt was always part of the plan, but when someone suggested I use Rifle Paper Co. scraps (thank you to whoever you are!), it immediately felt like the perfect direction to take this quilt.

I’ve made a few Rifle Paper Co. scrap quilts in the past (you can see those here, here, here, and here), and they are always SO MUCH FUN to work on. I have an entire bin of leftovers from previous RPC projects, so I started by pulling everything out and sorting through it. I decided to leave out the seasonal prints (Christmas, Halloween, and Easter) and focus just on the florals to keep the quilt feeling a little more cohesive.

For the background fabric, I happened to have exactly the right amount of Pure Solids in Creme de la Creme, which made the decision easy. Rifle Paper Co. scrap quilts can look amazing with a scrappy background, but with limited time, the solid felt like the right choice for this project.

I had several Rifle Paper Co. prints that would have worked well for the backing, so I put it to a vote on Instagram — and this one was the clear favorite. I love that this particular colorway doesn’t appear anywhere in the quilt top, which made it feel like a fun and unexpected addition.

I considered using another floral print for the binding, but there was already a lot going on with the quilt top. When I’m choosing a binding for a scrap quilt, I usually try to coordinate it with the backing fabric. This green/blue/gray solid is Pure Solids in Northern Waters, and it tied everything together nicely.

If you’d like to make your own Vivian Quilt, you can find the Vivian Quilt Pattern in the shop — it’s a great option for scraps, Jelly Rolls, or pulling fabrics straight from your stash.
