The Irene Quilt in Duval

The Irene Quilt in Duval

I have another Irene Quilt sample to share with you today!

The Irene Quilt in Duval - Kitchen Table Quilting

You might have noticed that I am enjoying working with Suzy Quilts fabric collection. In addition to this quilt that I made using Evolve, I have included either Duval or Evolve or the Suzy Quilts solids in several mockup posts (see here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here).

Sometimes there will be a fabric collection that I love, but it doesn't work in every pattern or it can be a little finicky to get it to work. I don't love the collection any less, I just have to work a little harder for it! Sometimes a collection won't be my favorite, but it will work really well in quilt patterns. Rarely do I find collections that I love and that work really well in any patterns and Suzy Quilts has figured out how to check both boxes. (Note: there are several designers that do this very well and you will notice that I use their collections over and over again!)

So now that I have used Evolve in a quilt, it was time to use my fat quarter bundle of Duval for an Irene Quilt

Since there are coordinating solids that go with the collection, picking sashing and background fabrics was extra fun. I stuck with Pearl for the background squares and used Driftwood for the sashing. I know not everyone loves brown, but this is such a pretty brown/purple color that I should probably just buy a whole bolt.

For the quilting, I did a simple grid of squares using the walking foot on my machine. I love the texture that a grid gives the quilt and I love that it doesn't take away from the drama of the quilt.

The binding is the Tiny Moon print in Truffle and the backing is one of Suzy's 108" wide prints, Boho Birds in Nova. Thank you fabric manufacturers for offering more wideback prints, you are making our lives so much easier!

Now that I have made quilts using both Evolve and Duval, I have squirreled away my leftover pieces with plans to make a scrappy-esque quilt using both of them someday. I can't wait.

If you would like to make your own Irene Quilt just like this one, you can find the pattern in the shop and (if you're lucky!) find Duval in shops. If you can't find it, I think Evolve would work just as beautifully.
