The Elena Quilt in Orchard from Rifle Paper Co.
You know I'm a huge fan of all of the Rifle Paper Co. collections and their newest collection Orchard is no exception (keep reading for a coupon code). I love working with a bundle of RPC fabrics because not only do I get to make a quilt with the collection, but then I have leftover scraps to add to my Rifle Paper Co. scrap bin for a future project. Lots of good things.
When I saw the collection, I knew I wanted to make the Elena Quilt. I don't know if this popped into my head because I have made this pattern using a previous Rifle Paper Co. collection (see here) so I don't know if that influenced my decision, but I am happy that I ended up going for it.
You might notice that the backdrop of these photos looks a little more mountain-y than usual. I am in Utah right now visiting my family and we had photos taken in a canyon near my mom's house. Of course I had to bring a couple of quilts to photograph as well.
The Elena Quilt can be made with fat eighths or fat quarters. The pattern actual requires exactly as many prints as are included in the collection so I decided to go with the fat eighth instructions. But then I realized that two of the prints were going to blend too much with the background fabric, so I cut 2 of the prints using the FQ instructions and the remaining prints using the F8th instructions which worked out very nicely.
For the quilting, I did a serpentine stitch. My favorite thing about this stitch is the texture that it gives to the quilting.
For the cornerstones, I used a medium purple print. I had originally planned to use a darker purple that would have been a very close match to the dark purple in the collection, but I felt like a similar shade of purple, but a little lighter, would stand out a little better. This is Kona Plum.
I didn't have enough of the purple solid for the binding, so I decided to go with dark green. Unfortunately I didn't have this fabric labeled so I don't know what it is, but it was perfect with the collection.
Orchard by Rifle Paper Co. is available now! Use code ERICA15 to get 15% site wide on the Rifle Paper Co. website through August 24, 2024. You can find the Elena Quilt Pattern in my shop.
