My Zola Quilt

My Zola Quilt

This post is about a week and a half overdue, but we are rounding out the last couple of weeks of summer vacation over here and we have been busy! Wow, I am exhausted just thinking about it. I have officially reached the point at which I am ready for school to start and we still have a couple of weeks left.

Even though this post is a little late, I wanted to take the time to tell you a little more about the Zola Quilt pattern and its inspiration and to show you a little more of my quilt.

About 5 years ago, I was part of a do. Good Stitches charity stitching circle and we made this asterisk quilt. Ever since I made that project, an idea for my own take on an asterisk block has been floating around my mind. I have tried to make the pattern happen a few different times but it was never quite right. Finally, I sat down one day and this pattern just kind of happened.

Sometimes things just need to happen in their own time. In the end, I am glad it took me this long because I might not have originally thought to make the rainbow version and it might not have occurred to me to use V and Co's ombre fabrics.

Through writing patterns I have discovered that people like patterns that have lots of options (this one has a rainbow version or can be fat quarter friendly) and I am doing my best to fit as many options as possible into my patterns (without making them confusing of course).

People also tend to like patterns that look difficult but that are actually pretty easy to put together - this one falls into that category. It isn't the most beginner friendly pattern, but it is much more simple than it looks.

The ombre fabrics worked so beautifully in this pattern that I actually listed the colors inside the pattern in case you want to make one just like it - there are also colors listed to make a rainbow baby size or twin size version. This pattern also works really well with solids (and I will be sharing my own solids version as soon as I can get it quilted!).

I used an ombre fabric for the backing too and love the effect. I don't normally care for solid backings, but the ombre makes it a lot of fun!

You can pick up a PDF or paper version of this pattern in my shop. I hope you have as much fun making it as I did!
