How to Build a Color-Based Quilt Fabric Stash
When selecting fabrics for your stash, prioritize prints that feature your chosen color with a neutral background. Basics collections often include these versatile prints, but adding fabrics from larger collections gives your stash more personality.
Avoid large-scale prints, high-contrast designs, and most stripes (unless tone-on-tone). Tone-on-tone fabrics for quilting are my favorite and make stash building easy. Also, steer clear of directional prints unless you’re comfortable working with them.
Include a variety of shades to make your stash more versatile. For pink fabrics, I love warm corals and peach tones, but I also ensure I have cooler pinks for flexibility in my quilt designs.
