The Sadie Quilt in Forest Forage Daisies

The Sadie Quilt in Forest Forage Daisies

If you’re looking for a modern quilt pattern that works beautifully with fat quarters and scraps, the Sadie Quilt is a perfect choice! When I picked up a fat quarter bundle of the new Forest Forage collection from Fableism, I knew I wanted to combine these fresh colors with some leftover scraps from the original Daisies collection I had previously used (see that quilt here).

Since I didn’t quite have enough FQers to make the full quilt, those extra fabric scraps helped bridge the gap—making this an ideal scrappy quilt project for anyone looking to use up their stash creatively.

Why the Sadie Quilt Was the Perfect Choice

The Sadie Quilt pattern is one of those versatile designs that looks great in almost any fabric combination. I especially love how the small-scale floral prints in Fableism’s Daisies collection interact with the quilt’s structured strips. The way the daisy motifs align perpendicular to the fabric strips creates lots of visual movement.

Fabric Details for This Sadie Quilt

Background Fabric

For the background fabric, I used Pure Solids in Linen, a warm, neutral shade that allows the colorful Daisies prints to stand out.

Backing Fabric

For the quilt backing, I initially planned to use a darker Add It Up print but somehow lost it in my sewing room (turns out I had folded it inside the quilt top—oops! 😆). Instead, I used Add It Up in Polar from my stash, which worked just as well.

Quilt Binding

The binding fabric is Fableism's Everyday Chambray in Obsidian, and I’m in love with how soft it is! I already plan to stock up on some more Everyday Chambray colors to bind future projects.

Quilting & Stitching Details

For the quilting, I kept it simple yet modern with a straight-line grid pattern, using the guide on my walking foot. The grid lines are spaced about 2 inches apart, adding the perfect amount of texture without overpowering the quilt’s design. I like how the quilted squares echo the squares shapes in the quilt.

I also have to mention—I am still loving my new sewing machine! It’s made the quilting process so smooth and enjoyable. If you’re thinking about investing in a sewing machine for quilting, I highly recommend the Janome 6700.

Quilt Photography & a New (Tall) Assistant

A little personal update: My middle child, Jonah, is now officially taller than me—and almost as tall as his dad. Naturally, this means he’s now my backup quilt holder for photos when my husband is at work. He definitely looks thrilled about it. 😉
