The Mini Plaid-ish Quilt in Geometry

The Mini Plaid-ish Quilt in Geometry

When I started planning my Mini Plaid-ish Quilt Pattern, I knew I wanted a fabric collection that I truly loved — and the Geometry fabric collection was available at just the right time. This modern, versatile collection has a wonderful mix of values, and while it might not seem like the obvious choice for this quilt pattern, it ended up working beautifully.

Unlike the original Plaid-ish scrap quilt tutorial, which encourages quilters to use light-colored scraps, the Mini Plaid-ish pattern recommends using a single white or off-white background fabric. This lighter, more consistent background makes it easier to work with almost any fabric collection. Instead of searching for perfect “dark” and “mid-value” prints, you only need fabrics that are darker than the others — everything else works as a mid-value print.

This flexibility is what makes the Mini Plaid-ish Quilt Pattern so fun to make. Some of the Geometry prints (like the navy and brown fabrics) are very dark, while others lean just a little darker. Both work beautifully in the pattern, creating depth, balance, and a striking plaid effect.

For the cover quilt, I made the large lap size quilt, which finishes at 64"x78". This larger size is my family's favorite size for a couch quilt and it was the perfect way to showcase how well this collection works with the Mini Plaid-ish design.
