The Lovely Hunt Quilt

The Lovely Hunt Quilt

I am running a little behind on . . . everything (it's spring break here!) but I wanted to share a little more about my version of my Sadie Quilt pattern.

Making this quilt was super special to me for a couple of different reasons. One is that it was turning this quilt, which I made during a time when I was going through some tough things, into a pattern to share with all of you. That turned out to be really wonderful and therapeutic.

The second is that it used some long-hoarded Lizzy House fabric. I love her fabric and she isn't releasing new collections, so that was scary for me. It really made me confront that I am a little bit of a hoarder when it comes to my fabric stash. That fabric isn't doing any good sitting on a shelf, but it was so hard to cut into.

It was also so much fun to work with fabric that I love so much and it has really motivated me to sew with my stash. Of course that is easier said than done - I have been collecting quilting fabric for about 9 years and it will probably take me about 90 to sew through all of it - but I have a little less fear now.

When I decided to use The Lovely Hunt for this quilt, I knew I wanted to do something rainbow-y and I am so pleased with how it turned out. It's more of a grownup rainbow.

For the quilting, I did my normal "organic" crosshatch which gives the quilt just the best texture. I roughly used the squares in the pattern to space my lines.

The backing is an older Lotta Jansdotter print that I adore and the binding is a dark blue solid.

It is amazing how much emotion a quilt can hold - when I look at this quilt, I feel so much! But isn't that the special thing about quilts? They are more than the time and effort that we put into them.
