The Cynthia Quilt Pattern in Pink and Purple
Whenever I design a quilt pattern, I like to test it with a variety of fabrics before deciding whether it’s ready for release. Some designs look great with a specific fabric collection but fall apart when you switch to solids, scraps, or a different style of print. I want the patterns in my shop to be flexible enough to work with whatever fabrics you enjoy sewing with, so I spend quite a bit of time trying different combinations.
When I started testing the Cynthia Quilt with solids, I landed on this pink and purple palette and didn’t feel the need to keep looking. The design relies on contrast between the center squares, star points, and background, and solids make those relationships easy to see.
This version was made with Art Gallery Fabrics Pure Solids, and I love how the range of pinks and purples creates variation while still feeling cohesive. The Cynthia Quilt is naturally a good pattern for playing with color because each block combines two fabrics, giving you plenty of opportunities to mix light and dark values and create contrast throughout the quilt.

If you’ve been considering making a Cynthia Quilt, this version is a good reminder that the pattern doesn’t need a fabric collection to be successful. A stack of solids, a favorite group of scraps, or a mix of fabrics pulled from your stash can all create something completely different.
