The Carly Quilt - Scrappy Version
You guys know I love scrap quilts and that I always have an excess of scraps. When I was planning out samples for the Carly Quilt Pattern, I knew I wanted to make a scrappy version.
Last year I went through my scrap bins and them down into some different squares (2", 2.5", 3", 3.5", etc.) so that they would be ready to go when I wanted to make a scrap project. This made is so much faster to put a scrap quilt together and this project really put a dent in my scrap bin.
It is amazing how different the scrappy version looks!
Plus I love that this quilt uses a lot of low volume/light solid colors because I always end up with lots of scraps like this in my bin because of leftover background fabric pieces.
For the backing fabric, I used a 108" wide Ruby Star Society print. Have you tried these? They are sateen so they have a really smooth feel to them. It makes a very soft quilt back!
Normally, I like to pick a binding fabric that frames the quilt and then usually leads to a solid black, navy, or gray, but I went in a different direction for this quilt. I wanted something that would blend well with the backing fabric but interfere with the scrappiness of the front. This light pink was perfect!

I’m making the lap size carly quilt. I cut out the amount listed on page 2 which says: fabric a, cut 6 4″×4″, fabric b, cut 18 4″×4″, fabric c 18 4″×4″, and fabric d 6 4″×4″. How many blocks do you get out of that? I made all my hst’s and have only put together 3 blocks and realize I don’t have nearly enough hst’s. So, I figured for the lap size, I need a total of 30 A/BG, 30 A/B, 108 B/BG, 72 B/C, 108 C/BG, 30 C/D, and 30 D/BG. Is that correct?

This quilt is so explosive and vibrant. I love it! It’s a good reminder to me to keep some spaces that allow the eye to rest.
