Sunprint Sandia Quilt

Sunprint Sandia Quilt

This quilt is available for sale in my shop!

I was playing around with some different ideas for how to use the Sunprint fabrics from the January Culcita Box, when I opened up the Southwest Modern book my Kristi Schroeder that I had recently received from Lucky Spool Media and saw the Sandia Quilt.

It is a great, quick pattern and worked perfectly with fat quarters. I decided to start with the warmer colors in the upper left corner and gradually move down to the cooler colors in the lower right corner.

Prepare to be shocked: I did not do my normal straight-ish, randomly spaced lines for the quilting. I did actual straight, regularly spaced lines.  Ok, they are still not perfectly straight, but I'm only human!

When I was looking for backing fabric in my stash, I found this Ikea print that was leftover from making curtains for our bedroom in San Diego, but it was about 5 inches too short.  No worries; after some searching, I found 5 more yards of it in my stash.

The binding fabric is FreeSpirit solid in black and I sewed down the binding by hand with my normal big stitches

And I added a label to the back of the quilt. I am still working on where exactly I want to place the label and how exactly I feel about them. Sometime in the next few weeks I will write up a post with more details.
