New Pattern - The Elena Quilt

New Pattern - The Elena Quilt

Today I have a very exciting pattern to share with you - meet the Elena Quilt

The Elena Quilt Pattern - Kitchen Table Quilting

Let me give you a little background. Sometimes when I write a pattern, I know that it's not going to have wide appeal. I don't feel like every pattern has to be super popular because some designs just aren't going to be everyone's favorite. In the end, I only write patterns that I would want to make and sometimes those patterns aren't what everyone else is going to want to make. I'm okay with all of that.

Occasionally a pattern will surprise me and be more or less popular than I expected. This used to be a huge emotional roller coaster for me and the day of a pattern release would mean very little sleep and lots of stress. But now I have been doing this long enough that as long as I feel good about the pattern I am releasing, I don't stress too much about how many people will want to make it. I know it will be the right pattern for some people, but not for everyone.

That being said, I think you guys are going to really like this pattern.

The Elena Quilt is fat quarter or fat eighth friendly (yay, my favorite!) and it is so much simpler to make than it looks. The way that the shapes are situated in the quilt gives it a lot of fun movement and the pieces are big enough to show off your fabrics.

This pattern is named after my 3rd great grandmother, Elena Hansine Larsen, who was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1838 and emigrated to the United States in 1853 where she eventually settled in Summit County, Utah.

You might remember that last summer I spent a weekend with the women in my family near Summit County and that was where I wrote this pattern. It was a very special experience. (My grandfather - in the center of this photo - is Elena's great-grandson).
