Mini Plaid-ish Quilt Mockups - Large Lap Size

Mini Plaid-ish Quilt Mockups - Large Lap Size

Yesterday I made a post with small lap size mockups of the Mini Plaid-ish Quilt Pattern and today I am sharing the large lap size version. I'm going to re-cap a little on why I split it up and give you some guidance on making the quilt, so if you read the last post, you can skip straight to the quilts!

To make things easier, I’m breaking these mockups into two separate posts: one for the small lap size and one for the large lap size. Different fabric collections naturally lend themselves to different sizes depending on how many prints they include. I have done the mockup as a large lap size if I felt like that worked with the collection so the majority of the mockups will be posted tomorrow in that post.

Fabric Requirements by Size

  • Small Lap Size: 7 dark-valued fat quarters and 9 mid-valued fat quarters

  • Large Lap Size: 8 dark-valued fat quarters and 12 mid-valued fat quarters

These requirements make it simple to pull from a bundle or mix fabrics from your stash.

Choosing Fabrics by Value

When you look at the mockups, you’ll notice that not every collection has obvious dark prints like black, navy, or charcoal. That’s okay! What matters most is that your dark-valued fabrics are darker than your mid-valued fabrics.

To simplify things, all of these mockups use a white or off-white solid (or near-solid) for the background. That way, you can easily separate your fabrics into three groups:

  1. Very light background fabric

  2. Dark(er) prints

  3. Everything else (mid-valued fabrics)

Once your fabrics are grouped this way, the pattern does the rest of the work for you.

What a great post. I love LOVE LOVE all the color mock ups. I cant even pick a favorite. I want to make them all. I’ve always loved plaid. These look simpler to cut than the original. I’ve got to get this pattern!

I recently purchased this quilt pattern to re-create the rainbow version you made using leftover fabric and fabric from your stash. Wish me luck!
