Meet the Cynthia Quilt Pattern!

Meet the Cynthia Quilt Pattern!

Hold onto your socks because this is going to be a summer of quilt patterns! My patterns are usually in-process for about a year before I get to add them to the shop and sometimes the timing of fabric availability for the cover quilt, the schedule of my technical editor and long arm quilter, and just goings on in life mean that I have several patterns to share in a relatively short time period.

Let me introduce you to the Cynthia Quilt

The Cynthia Quilt started with a traditional sawtooth star block, but I wanted to create something that felt a little different. By mirroring the shape and alternating the direction of the blocks throughout the quilt, the design creates movement across the quilt while still maintaining the timeless appeal of a classic star quilt.

One of my favorite things about the Cynthia Quilt is how versatile it is. It looks beautiful in a carefully curated fabric collection, but it truly shines when made with a variety of fabrics. Whether you pull out a favorite fat quarter bundle, combine fabrics from several collections, or dive into your scrap bins, the Cynthia Quilt has a wonderfully scrappy feel that makes every version unique.

Because each block features a large center square surrounded by star points, this pattern is also a great opportunity to showcase favorite prints, fussy-cut fabrics, or special fabrics you’ve been saving for the perfect project.

The Cynthia Quilt is constructed using no-waste flying geese and large-ish blocks, making it a satisfying project that comes together surprisingly quickly. The blocks are big enough to show off your fabrics while still providing plenty of opportunities to play with color, value, and scale. If you’re someone who enjoys mixing fabrics and watching a quilt slowly come to life as the blocks come together, I think you’re going to love this one.

For best results, I recommend choosing a background fabric that contrasts well with your feature fabrics. Since each block combines multiple fabrics, pairing fabrics with different values, colors, or scales will help the star shapes stand out and create even more movement throughout the quilt.

The Cynthia Quilt Pattern includes five sizes:

  • Baby: 48” x 49”
  • Lap: 60” x 69”
  • Twin: 72” x 89”
  • Queen: 84” x 99”
  • King: 108” x 109”

The pattern is fat quarter friendly and includes instructions for creating a scrappy version. I will be sharing three versions with you this week: the cover quilt which uses Halloween fabrics, a pink and perfect solids version, and a quilt made with a bright and fun FQ bundle and assembled in a scrappy layout.
