Charlotte Quiltalong Week 3: Start Sewing Your Blocks!
Welcome to Week 3 of the Charlotte Quiltalong! This is where we get to start our little pieces of fabric turn into a quilt. I never get tired of it.
We have 2 weeks to get our blocks together so don't panic!
Progress Check: Quilt Block Construction Isn’t Always Perfect
Let’s be honest: not every block is going to be flawless — and that’s completely normal. Small differences in seam allowance or fabric thickness can affect your points, especially with smaller blocks or scrappy fabric pulls.
If you would like some info and tips on getting a 1/4" seam allowance, check out this post from the Luna Quiltalong.

Tips for Sewing Charlotte Quilt Blocks
Here are a few of my go-to tips for getting great results when piecing your blocks:
-
Make sure you are happy with your fabric combination in your block before you start sewing
-
Mix up color and value in each block to keep things balanced and dynamic.
-
Press as you go. I prefer pressing seams open for flatter blocks. Once the blocks are sewn, I lay a large square ruler on top and add a book or weight overnight — it helps the blocks stay flat for quilt top assembly.
-
Stay organized! Keep each block’s pieces grouped together — especially helpful if you’re using scraps or making more than one quilt.
📹 Watch This Week’s Quiltalong Video
In this week’s video, I’m walking you through how to sew the Charlotte Quilt blocks. Confession: I don't pin when I am just sewing 2.5" pieces together. I will definitely be pinning next week when there are longer seams and points to match.

Instagram Live Q&A Reminder
Join me on Tuesday at 1pm PT for a live Q&A on Instagram. I’ll be answering questions about sewing quilt blocks, layout options, fabric placement, and anything else you’d like to discuss.
Can’t make it live? No worries — the replay will be saved to my Instagram feed.
Next week we’ll start assembling the quilt top — it’s all coming together! If you haven’t started your blocks yet, this is the perfect time to jump in. Happy sewing!
