A Scrappy Remy Quilt
To be honest, making a scrappy version of the Remy Quilt Pattern was not part of my original plan. In fact, I didn’t even include scrap-friendly instructions when I first wrote the pattern. But then I was digging through my stash, pulled out the Ruby Star Society 10 Years of Magic Panel (warning: this is largely out of stock and is marked up substantially over the original price!), and realized the largest square was exactly the right size for the star centers in this quilt. And, as luck would have it, I already had the perfect binding fabric waiting in my drawer (more on that in a bit).

At that point, there was no turning back — this quilt needed to become an ode to Ruby Star Society. I have a pretty large collection of RSS scraps, and a lot of them were already pre-cut into the sizes I needed, so assembling the fabrics took almost no extra work. It felt like the scraps were practically volunteering to hop into this quilt.

For the background, I pulled together a mix of low-volume Ruby Star Society prints. I love a scrappy background, and it’s also a wonderfully economical way to use leftovers from previous projects. The subtle prints add texture without overwhelming the stars, and they help the whole quilt feel cohesive even with so many different fabrics in the mix.

Since the quilt top is so colorful, I chose something more subdued for the backing: Starry Wideback in Multi. It’s soft, pretty, and such a good neutral for bold quilts — I’m already planning to order more for future projects.

And the binding? That was the easiest decision of the entire quilt. I had a half yard of Selvedge Magic on hand, which includes the names of all the designers who contributed to the fabrics in this quilt. The pattern only requires 1/2 yard of binding, but I usually prefer to cut my strips a little wider. If I’d had enough, I would have cut them 3.5" or even 4" just to show off more of the print — it’s that good.

If you’re drowning in scraps like I am, this is truly the perfect project. Grab your bins, start pulling your favorite leftovers, and head over to the shop to pick up your copy of the Remy Quilt Pattern!
