5 Fast Quilt Patterns for Last-Minute Gifts

If you’re looking for quick quilt patterns you can finish fast — especially for last-minute holiday gifts — I have a list for you. I know that when I decide to make a holiday gift, it is usually at the very last minute PLUS this time of year is already busy to begin with so quick projects are perfect.

Each of these quilt tops can be completed as a lap-size quilt in 1–2 days with a few big chunks of dedicated sewing time. They are all beginner-friendly, stash-friendly, and most are precut-friendly too, making them great for using fabric you already have on hand.

Below are my five fastest quilt patterns, ranked from quickest to “still very quick.” Rankings assume you’re sewing the pattern exactly as written (strip piecing where applicable) rather than using a scrappy layout.

1. The Jonah Quilt

The Jonah Quilt is my absolute fastest pattern to sew. Large pieces and simple construction make this an ideal choice for a last-minute handmade quilt gift. Jonah works beautifully with fat quarters, which makes fabric selection easy—perfect when you’re pressed for time.

2. The Judy Quilt

The Judy Quilt comes together quickly and looks far more complex than it actually is. If you want a quilt pattern that delivers visual impact with minimal effort, Judy is a great choice. Note: this pattern is much easier and faster to construct if you have a design wall or big chunk of floor space to lay everything out so make sure to clear some room!

3. The Libby Quilt

The Libby Quilt has clean lines and quick construction. Cutting is simple and the layout works with practically any color palette. There are no y-seams involved and the pattern gives you some tips to pick fabrics that will help hide the hidden seams.

4. The Ella Quilt

The Ella Quilt is a clean, modern choice. It’s easy to cut, easy to assemble, and works well with curated bundles or stash fabrics — perfect for last-minute gift sewing.

5. Even-Steven

Even-Steven is modern, geometric, and fast to sew. Its simple design makes it a versatile gift quilt that works in nearly any fabric style. One of my favorite ways to make this quilt is to pair up fabrics from my stash and use them together in the blocks.

Not doing any gift sewing?

Me either! But these are still fun, quick patterns to have on hand for those last minute quilt-mergencies.
